Writing, Photography, and Life

Well, it’s been a couple years since I had a working website, and for that matter enough health to function and fix things! I’m able to write and do less physically-intensive photography again, though, so here’s a big FU to the pandemic and the virus that caused it.

Photography: I’ve got a studio in Cologne Mulheim and can do outdoor or event shootings taking up to 3 hours, though I’ll likely need a break in there. I did do a lovely gay wedding a couple weeks ago and shot for 10 hours, but that was pushing things a bit and I crashed rather hard afterwards. At the moment, I’m not working any castle larps, just the local Katakomben larp in Cologne every few months.

Books: Strangeling got good reviews but no publicity, largely because I got long covid about a week after publishing. I’d set myself a goal… well, that’s not quite accurate, my patrons from Over There wanted the book released on the summer solstice 2022. Software errors in my formatting software randomly reversed quotation marks and apostrophes throughout an already-proofread 120,000 word manuscript two days before I needed to export, and… well, the stress probably had a bit to do with getting so sick. Had all the brain fog and damage, and it took a lot of lion’s mane mushrooms and language games to be able to write again.

But I am writing again! I’m starting a web serial called “Valkyrie” that will become a prequel novella to promote the Broken Dawn books, which is about the redcap raid on a Viking reenactment that got Aisling into the hero business. I’m working on a similar origin story for Arthur, though it’s much more about where his excessive trauma came from. Connor hasn’t volunteered a prequel but we’ll see, something might come. His backstory slowly coming out is a big part of the main storyline, anyway.

Strangeling is currently in re-edits based on the reviews I got about it. It’ll be at least a 7 book series, and that needs a strong foundation. Strangeling will have a couple more Connor chapters and a more action, less exposition kind of start. Version one is still for sale and will be until mid Fall or so. Book 2, tentatively titled “Half-Elven”, is about half written; I want to relaunch book 1 when it goes into edits. The entire series is outlined and about 500,000 words of rough draft text across it exist, so yes, it is coming.

Anyway, I’m alive again and making things! Subscribe to my newsletter or follow on socials to keep up with these projects.
