In Berlin!

Sorry about the lack of posts recently; I just made a major international move from Moscow to Berlin with about 2 week’s notice. My husband and are getting settled in fairly well now and I should be posting again regularly! The trip was… an adventure, in the way that badly planned things often are, but we made it to our new place at about 4:30 a.m. on May 2nd and are now about 80% unpacked and set up here. So, […]

Tverskaya Cyanotype

Ah, Moscow: the never-ending greyness, the lousy weather, the winter depression, the bad air… I doctored up this photo in honor of all that. (Sorry about the lack of posts recently, by the way; there’s a bad flu going around and I ended up sick in bed for 8 days straight.) Anyway, this photo. I shot it two years ago as a standard color image, in RAW format of course, and then started playing with it. The light scattering of […]

Labyrinth & Fishermen, Minnehaha Park, Minneapolis

Minnehaha Park, Minneapolis, is one of my favorite places in the world. It’s a thin ribbon of a park following Minnehaha Creek down a narrow river gorge. The Greatness of Rome

This guy cracked me up. Charged me two Euros to take the shot. Such a Roman – didn’t even put down the cigarette. Italians! Anyway, I sort of think it makes the shot.

The Winged Messenger

I photographed this statue in the Capitoline Museum, Rome, and I really, really wish I’d snapped a shot of the tag on it as well. I’d hit the stage where my artistic juices were flowing smoothly and my common sense had turned off, though, so… It makes me think of fallen angels, forbidden knowledge, and messages in the night. Another photo that’d do well as a cover for a Goth CD… I don’t believe the statue even had wings – […]

The Torchlit Procession

Last year I was walking across Tallinn late at night, off to get a pint of the nice house porter at Hell Hunt, when a group in medieval garb and carrying torches stepped out of one of the old buildings. They walked down to one of the gates in the city walls – all of Old Town’s fortifications survive – playing pipe and tabor. It was intensely surreal and beautiful and a little scary. I treated this photo to look […]
