Hello and thanks for stopping by my website! My name is Kira Hagen and I’m 32, a semi-pro photographer, traveler, and teacher of English (and sometimes nanny) — as of 2009-10 in a private girls school in Samsun, Turkey. I do travel stock, fine art photography, and occasional weddings; prints and rights managed stock are available via Photoshelter integration with this site.Much of my more arts-oriented work has themes of myth and history. I’m a pagan, majored in ancient Mediterranean history, and have a deep love of folklore and sacred sites. Also, of movies and movie posters — probably the biggest influence on my work with models.
Some of my other interests are permaculture and environmentalism, so I have a number of posts up on those topics even though they don’t really otherwise fit the theme of this blog. My father works in agroforestry and parks management around Africa, so I grew up traveling back and forth between the US and Burkina Faso and then Madagascar. If I read up on new methods or technologies I think would help his work, I sometimes write up a quick overview for him and then repost it here. I’d love to be involved in helping document environmental projects, so if you’re here reading my terra preta post and need a photographer/ web designer please let me know!
Generally I get about one post a month out, so this blog won’t break your rss feed if you subscribe. I play with the coding side of my website somewhat more often than I actually post, which has resulted in me trying about a dozen different gallery solutions since starting the site in 2005. I’m trying to get all the images onto Photoshelter now but working full time at a Turkish high school doesn’t leave me tons of time. If you like a picture that you can’t click on and get a price, email me at kira@kirahagen.com . Also feel free to contact me about English lessons, of course!
