Hello and thanks for stop­ping by my web­site! My name is Kira Hagen and I’m 32, a semi-pro pho­tog­ra­pher, trav­eler,  and teacher of Eng­lish (and some­times nanny) — as of 2009-10 in a pri­vate girls school in Sam­sun, Turkey.  I do travel stock, fine art pho­tog­ra­phy, and occa­sional wed­dings; prints and rights man­aged stock are avail­able via Pho­to­shel­ter inte­gra­tion with this site.Much of my more arts-oriented work has themes of myth and his­tory. I’m a pagan, majored in ancient Mediter­ranean his­tory, and have a deep love of folk­lore and sacred sites. Also, of movies and movie posters — prob­a­bly the biggest influ­ence on my work with models.

Some of my other inter­ests are per­ma­cul­ture and envi­ron­men­tal­ism, so I have a num­ber of posts up on those top­ics even though they don’t really oth­er­wise  fit the theme of this blog. My father works in agro­forestry and parks man­age­ment around Africa, so I grew up trav­el­ing back and forth between the US and Burk­ina Faso and then Mada­gas­car. If I read up on new meth­ods or tech­nolo­gies I think would help his work, I some­times write up a quick overview for him and then repost it here.  I’d love to be involved in help­ing doc­u­ment envi­ron­men­tal projects, so if you’re here read­ing my terra preta post and need a photographer/ web designer please let me know!

Gen­er­ally I get about one post a month out, so this blog won’t break your rss feed if you sub­scribe. I play with the cod­ing side of my web­site some­what more often than I actu­ally post, which has resulted in me try­ing about a dozen dif­fer­ent gallery solu­tions since start­ing the site in 2005. I’m try­ing to get all the images onto Pho­to­shel­ter now but work­ing full time at a Turk­ish high school doesn’t leave me tons of time.
